Colby June is a jewelry designer who lives at the base of majestic Mt. Sopris, just outside Aspen, where she grew up. From a young age, world travel and a connection to “the tiny details in nature” have always been core to Colby June, so it’s no surprise both strongly inform her aesthetic. Extended stays in Nepal and Mexico between high school and college were particularly influential. It was during a trip to San Miguel de Allende, in fact, where Colby June took her first jewelry design class and discovered her love for the craft.
In the spring of 2000, Colby June graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a degree in Hispanic Studies. She later obtained a MA in Counseling Psychology and worked as a school counselor. Whenever she had the space and time, she would design and fabricate jewelry.
In the spring of 2010 Colby gave birth to her daughter Perry. She left her position as a school counselor and is now doing the two jobs she loves most–being a mom and a jeweler.
Working mostly with precious metals like gold, silver, and bronze (as well as the occasional gemstone “for an unexpected splash of color”), Colby June’s pieces are organic and simple in shape — many resemble delicate twigs, leaves, grass blades, or water-polished stones.
Shaped too by her daughter Perry June’s free spirit and her husband’s eye for modern
architecture, Colby June Jewelry is both an ode to the wild outdoors and a testament to the underlying structure and balance in nature.
Growing up in a small town in Minnesota was a little boring in the way of adventures. Amanda took the first chance she got after graduating high school to head to the “Windy City” to attend Depaul University where she graduated with an art degree in graphic design. After college, Amanda worked for Studio 111, a design studio in Chicago, where she found her voice in design. She wore many hats and found it to be the perfect stepping stone experience.
Amanda began missing the small town atmosphere and went traveling to find her next move. She quickly fell in love with Colorado upon visiting, and moved to Carbondale shortly after, where she began working for Colby June in the Spring of 2012.
At Colby June, Amanda takes pride in playing multiple roles – managing sales, customer service, marketing, manning the desk, packing and sending product, and anything else that comes up – she’s your girl! Amanda firmly believes that a job title does not define you, but rather it’s you who defines the job title. She is constantly inspired by people who truly love their work and are constantly trying to grow and improve; it’s what she strives for.
When Amanda is not working, she splits her time equally between outdoor activities and baking. She enjoys snowboarding in the winter, hiking in the summer, and baking year round – to which she credits her lovely grandmothers!
